MIAMI, FL (AP) — Tropical Storm Ingrid formed Thursday in the Atlantic Ocean, the National Hurricane Center said.
At 5 a.m., the center of Tropical Storm Ingrid was located about 805 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. It is the ninth named storm of the season. Ingrid is moving west-northwest at almost 7 mph and is expected to continue at that pace for the next 24 hours.
Maximum sustained winds are close to 40 mph with higher gusts. A small increase in strength is possible during the next day.
The hurricane center said wind shear is expect to hamper Ingrid for the next day or so, limiting its ability to strengthen.
Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 50 miles from the center.
